A new, yet unnamed version of the Lamborghini Urus has already set a record in the production SUV category at the Pikes Peak International Hil Climb, ahead of its official world reveal. Hillclimb Champion and Pirelli Test Driver Simone Faggioli was entrusted with the new Urus, starting from an altitude of 2,862m and tackling 156 turns that wind for 20km.
The total hill climb was done in a record 10 minutes and 32 seconds, giving the Urus status as the fastest production SUV at Pikes Peak. Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini's Chief Technical Officer, remarked that Pikes Peak is the world's most famous hillclimb with good reason. The hillclimb is known to be extremely challenging, with an uneven track layout and significant altitude differences that stress the powertrain coupled with harsh weather conditions.
The Urus that was equipped with the twin turbo V8 engine was modified to comply with the safety regulations required at Pikes Peak. The passenger compartment was equipped with a roll cage and had its standard seats replaced by a race seat with six-harness and a fire extinguishing system.
The tyres are also an evolution of the Urus' Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R, providing even more versatility and higher performance in different asphalt conditions.
