BMW recalls half a million cars worldwide due to defective engine part
12 Apr 2014|3,836 views
After Toyota, now premium German automaker BMW has issued a global recall exercise citing issues with its VANOS - variable camshaft timing system. According to BMW, the bolts holding the VANOS system might loosen - or in extreme cases - break.
When that occurs, the 'check engine' or 'service engine soon' light comes up, followed by the display of a 'check control' message. If the system messages are ignored, the issue would gradually worsen and could lead to 'no start' conditions, stalling and even engine damage.
According to The Straits Times, the affected models cover models powered by six-cylinder engines built between September 2009 and November 2011. It is unclear how many cars are affected by the recall in Singapore, although the problem is relatively small in base country, Germany, with only 10,800 cars affected.
