Volvo has revealed its new, all-electric compact crossover, the EX30.
The car has been designed to offer short overhangs, alongside large wheels, touches said to bring balance and refinement to its exterior.
It's also recognisably electric, with a closed-off front. This front also sports a digital rendition of the firm's famous Thor's Hammer head lights. Customers will be offered a total of five vibrant exterior colours for their Volvo EX30, which range from Cloud Blue to bright and expressive Moss Yellow - the latter inspired by lichen growing on rocks along the Swedish west coast.
Speaking of choice, the Volvo EX30 is being offered internationally with three different drivetrain options.
The first standard-range option, makes use of a 51kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, offered for its cost-effectiveness while being less resource-intensive to produce. Those that need more battery capacity will be able to opt for the Extended Range variant, which utilises a nickel-manganese-cobalt 69kWh battery to deliver a range of up to 480km.
These battery options will be offered with a rear-mounted 268bhp electric motor.
If, however, you're looking for more performance, there's also the option to get the Volvo EX30 with the same nickel-manganese-cobalt battery, but with an additional electric motor at the front axle to bring total power up to 422bhp. This power will allow the EX30 to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 3.6 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating Volvo to date.
And speaking of speed, the standard-range EX30 will charge at a maximum speed of 134kW, while the extended-range battery can be charged at up to 153kW.
The Volvo EX30 will also be offered with a choice of five different ambient lighting themes, with each said to be inspired by a different Scandinavian landscape and subtly shifting in colour, adding a sense of calm to the interior.
The Volvo EX30 is already available to order across Europe and other selected markets, while customers in the U.S.A can already place pre-orders for the car. Volvo states that it will offer a Cross Country variant of the EX30, complete with distinct black body panels, more ground clearance, 19-inch black wheels, as well as a small, hood-mounted Swedish flag. Order books for the Volvo EX30 Cross Country will open come 2024.
