The prototype of Polestar's first-ever SUV, the Polestar 3, was previewed at the brand's showroom at 45 Leng Kee Road.
The Polestar 3 is also the largest model the Swedish electric carmaker has ever built, measuring 4,900mm long with a wheelbase length of 2,985mm.
Polestar emphasises, though, that unlike 'conventional' SUVs that are typically more than 1,700mm tall, the Polestar 3 only has a height of 1,627mm. Apart from having a more streamlined profile, this also improves aerodynamics, since the vehicle's front-end is more compact.
Dual blade head lights and 22-inch wheels (standard on the Performance Pack) add to the car's sporty character
The Polestar 3 also premieres the brand's new design language, which features 'dual blade' head lights and front and rear aero wings. Retractable door handles are another new feature - when the car is either locked or in motion, the door handles are retracted so that they remain flush with the body.
With electronic door handles and a new ultra-high-frequency key, Polestar says that the Polestar 3 can now offer the convenience of automatic locking and unlocking when the driver walks away or approaches the vehicle.
The brand is also touting its sustainability efforts with the new SUV. A complete life-cycle assessment (LCA) for the model is to be completed when its production begins. Inside, materials used include fully traceable wool upholsteries and animal welfare-certified leather.
Safety-wise, the Polestar 3 is fitted as standard with 12 external ultrasonic sensors, five radar modules and five external cameras. Located below the front wing is the SmartZone, which houses forward-facing sensors, camera, and heated radar module. The SmartZone will now be standard on upcoming Polestar models.
Powering the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack is the brand's most potent powertrain yet. The electric motors can dish out 510bhp and 910Nm of torque. Fed by a 111kWh lithium-ion battery, the Polestar 3 offers a driving range of up to 610km (WLTP).
Tablet-like 14.5-inch touchscreen display is the highlight of the Polestar 3's cabin, which features even more sustainable materials
Due to the numerous tests required, the first Polestar 3 units are only expected to roll off the assembly lines in the first quarter of 2024.
The car is expected to arrive in Singapore in the second half of the year. It's indicative price at press time is $350,000 without COE, and it will be subject to the 2024 Vehicle Emissions Scheme.
Alongside the Polestar 3 prototype, Polestar also announced the availability of the facelifted Polestar 2. It features the new SmartZone component that 'blanks-off' the grille, and an updated wheel design.
More importantly, the new Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack offers longer range and better performance. The battery capacity has risen from 78kWh to 82kWh, while the new electric motors now produce 469bhp and 740Nm of torque. The previous Long Range Dual Motor produced 402bhp and 660Nm.
With the extra oomph, the car's 0-100km/h time has dropped from 4.7 seconds to 4.2 seconds. Prices for the updated Polestar 2 start from $196,000 without COE.
