After having given us the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car as well as the Ioniq 5 N NPX1 concept, Hyundai has now unveiled a new Ioniq 5 N TA Spec variant of the Ioniq 5 N.
Short for 'Time Attack', this new variant of the electric car has been designed to take on the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb at Colorado Springs in the U.S.A come 23 June 2024.
The car will be delivering a total of 678bhp when it takes on the hillclimb, although Hyundai states that this has been done via software tuning, and the race cars still retains the high-performance power electric system of the Ioniq 5 N.
What has been modified, however, is the car's N Active Sound system, which gets modified speakers, said to enhance feedback for the driver. These will replace the sirens typical of electric Pikes Peak race cars.
The car, of course, also gets modified shock absorbers, motorsport-spec brakes, 18-inch Yokohama Advan 005 slick tyres, as well as a high-downforce aerodynamic package all to take on the climb. A Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, Sabelt six-point Hans safety harness, Pikes Peak specification roll cage and an electric vehicle-specific fire suppression system have been added to the car for safety.
The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec cars will race alongside two examples of the Ioniq 5 N at Pikes Peak. The cars will climb a total of 1,438m over a 20km course that comprises of 156 turns which will additionally see them being challenged by rapidly changing weather and high-altitude conditions which will challenge both car and driver.
