Hyundai opens new safety test site in Michigan, U.S.A

Hyundai Motor North America and Hyundai America Technical Centre, Inc., has celebrated the opening of a new $69 million (USD $51.4 million) Safety Test and Investigation Laboratory in Michigan, U.S.A.
The new facility is said to be a first of its kind facility dedicated to field safety built by an OEM in North America, and will investigating real-world crashes and field issues a job typically performed by outside vendors. Hyundai states that this change will allow it to take a more proactive approach in determining safety issues and trends early-on.
The facility houses a field crash investigation lab, a high voltage battery lab, a forensics lab, a 400m track and a vehicle skid pad.
Hyundai states the investment is focused on enhancing its commitment to safety by helping with new technology development, identifying, and replicating vehicle field issues, expediting investigations, and conducting regulatory safety testing.
