BMW offers first look at new M5 Touring

BMW has confirmed that the next M5 will get a Touring variant, marking an impressive follow-up to the M3 Touring announced in 2022.
The firm states that the first prototypes of the new vehicle are already scheduled to take on the urban traffic as well as the country roads and motorways around Munich, and at the BMW M GmbH headquarters in Garching, Germany.
No official performance figures have been revealed for the vehicle yet, however, BMW does state that just like the upcoming M5 Sedan, the M5 Touring will get a completely new, partially electrified drive system. We are guessing this is likely to be a variant of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain already utilised in the BMW XM.
The firm only recently revealed in May 2023 the i5 M60 xDrive, which comes with a system total output of 593bhp and 795Nm of torque. So, we think its safe to say this M5 will deliver a total power output well in excess of 600bhp.
The first BMW M5 Touring was first launched in 1992, based on the second generation BMW M5 Sedan. The M5 Touring has since only returned again in 2007, when a Touring variant was offered for the fourth generation BMW M5.
