The car conceived for the special event was created by 13 trainees led by project manager Holger Schulke over a one year period as part of a special training project at Volkswagen. The selected four women and nine men are among the best in their training programs and the resulting team were tasked with building a special GTI in May last year which would entice every visitor to drive one immediately.
"With projects like these, our students learn an incredible amount. For their GTI they could choose from a variety of components. You have seen how diverse our model range. And they have seen what high quality standards we at Volkswagen. Since 2004, Volkswagen offers its students the best opportunity to expand their expertise by working on specific vehicles," said Prof. Werner Neubauer, Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand manager for the business component.
Additionally a new Golf GTI concept - a high performance 'future variant' of the hot hatch - will also be unveiled at the event. Though it will contain lesser power than the GTI W12, Volkswagen R&D Boss, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, revealed it would be more realistic. It is unsure whether the concept would preview the upcoming GTI Edition 40 or a 40th Anniversary special edition model to celebrate 40 years of Golf in 2015.

From concept and design to interior and engine, the prospective motor vehicle mechatronics, vehicle painter, vehicle interior designers and technical model makers have almost everything planned and implemented the details and engineering themselves and in the process had a boost of self-confidence.
