The E-Type had curves like Angelina Jolie. But, the electric system was designed™by kittens.
Same with most versions of the XJ, they're still as gorgeous as ever. But they usually wound up sitting on the side of a motorway™in a cloud of steam.
However, Ford managed to change all of that. When they acquired the company in the late 80's, they brought the engineering department out of the stone age.
When you hit a switch, the electrics actually worked. And the engines started working too.
So, when Tata bought the company from Ford, they wisely included a clause that allowed them to purchase engines from Ford until 2019.
It's not that Tata can't build an engine, but the new 5-litre engine that Jag's been using has proven quite popular.
Another popular Tata-era item is the new XJ saloon.
It's modern, luxurious, and with the new 5-litre powerplant, it's remarkably smooth.
Now, there's a new version of the XJ.
Called the XJ Sentinal, this armoured cat features steel-kevlar plating that can withstand bullets, grenades, and small explosives.
There are several armour packages available - the highest of which is called B7. In this spec, the XJ Sentinel can withstand handgun fire from a 9mm, a .357, and a .44 magnum, armour-piercing rounds from an AK74 and an M61. It can also withstand a blast up to (the equivalent of) 15kg of TNT!
This seriously-safe Jag won't draw any unwanted attention though. From the outside, it looks just like any other XJ. So, you'll be able to blend™into your tax haven/capital city/bunker.
The Jaguar XJ Sentinel was developed in partnership with Centigon, and certified by the international blast testing organisation QinetiQ.
It's powered by the 385 bhp 5-litre V8. However, it weighs a whopping 3,300kg's. Needless to say, the 0-100km/h time has been reduced to 9.7 seconds. To compensate for the extra weight, Jaguar gave it a trick suspension system with constantly variable dampers and planet-sized brakes from the Supercharged XKR.
Pricing hasn't been released, but the car is set to debut this fall at the Moscow International Motor Show.
