Volvo launches The Volvo For Life Fund
23 Apr 2024|52 views
Volvo Cars has launched a new philanthropic fund, with the aim of positively impacting the communities of markets in which it is present.
The Volvo For Life Fund fund continues Volvo's heritage of care and safety - a legacy that was most notably started with the modern three-point safety belt, one of Volvo's most iconic contributions towards road safety. First introduced in 1959, the safety belt has been estimated to save a million lives ever since free use of its design was granted.
The Volvo For Life Fund will be organised into three focus areas: People, planet and protection, with the brand partnering charities aligned with the same focuses.
For the 'People' aspect, Volvo aims to create a safer, more empowered, and more socially mobile environment in marginalised communities. On this front, a partnership has been forged with Girls Who Code, with the joint aim of addressing the underrepresentation of women in computer science and software engineering roles.
The 'Planet' aspect, on the other hand, will see Volvo investing in both local and global projects dedicated to the restoration and preservation of natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
There will be an initial emphasis on restoration, ocean health as well as community engagement. The chosen organisation for this aspect is One Tree Planted, with the initiative helping to support reforestation on top of urban tree planting projects in seven countries, across five continents.
Finally, 'Protection'-wise, Volvo aims to support emergency response and relief efforts which assist in meeting humanitarian needs when and if a natural disaster occurs, in countries linked to its value chain.
On this front, the firm is partnering with Save the Children to build the resilience of educational systems in countries which are prone to natural disasters. To safeguard and sustain children's education in these countries, the funds provided by Volvo will be used to provide temporary learning spaces in emergency situations, ensuring children are able to safely return to learning after having an emergency.
It is said that the impact made by Volvo through this fund will be measured through programme-specific targets and partners. This information then helps measure Volvo's contribution towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
