Skoda has started brewing up a new sustainably sourced coffee at its Czech plants.
The coffee, called 'Curiosity Fuel', comes from beans that are grown on family-owned farms in India and Tanzania, which are then processed at a family roastery in Mlada Boleslav itself. The coffee has been named as such to fuel curiosity about sustainable practices along the entire value chain, an approach which Skoda has adopted to reduce the footprint of its operations.
Skoda states that its total annual coffee consumption at its Czech location amounts to approximately 25 tonnes (looks like our Editorial team has some catching up to do!), and will now be covered entirely by the sustainable, high-quality Curiosity Fuel. And don't imagine the coffee won't make its way around the world: Skoda states that it will be using the coffee bean husks to tan the leather on the seats of selected trims of the Kodiaq and the Octavia.
The new Curiosity Fuel coffee is produced following the principles of the Rainforest Alliance, which demand an adherence to socially and ecologically responsible practices while respecting nature and farmers throughout the production and delivery process. These local farms are additionally committed to preserving biodiversity and ensuring fair treatment and proper wages for their workers. Skoda states that it will additionally support a school near the Indian plantations where it sources this coffee.
