What you must know about the all-new Porsche Macan EV

A decade after it was originally introduced in Singapore, the Porsche Macan is now fully-electric. Redefining what ecologically-conscious cars can mean, as the carmaker blends cutting-edge approaches to sustainability with world-class sporty driving dynamics, the new Macan is only the second all-electric model in Porsche's lineup, after the Porsche Taycan (you could argue it's the third if you include the Taycan Cross Turismo). Needless to say, this trajectory is evidence that Porsche is going full-on when it comes to electrification.
And while the Taycan was a great success in terms of acceptability from the public and loyalists of the brand, the Macan is no exception. According to the German carmaker, the new Macan is a result of its motivation to create an electric SUV that offers sports car-like performance like no other. Has it succeeded? Well, one way to find out. Here's what you must know about the all-new all-electric Porsche Macan.
1. There are two variants at launch
Similar to what we covered at the end of January this year when the Porsche Macan made its world premiere here in Singapore, there are two different variants available at launch - the Porsche Macan 4 as well as the Macan Turbo.
Speaking with one of the executives during the press conference, other variants will be made available in the coming months. While nothing specific was mentioned, we do suspect them to either be the base model or perhaps the 4S.
2. Members of the numbers
Also, the Porsche Macan EV features 800V technology and is based on the Porsche Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture developed in collaboration with Audi AG - enhancing its flexibility and efficiency even further.
This obviously assists in the way the car dances on the tarmac. But figures first: The Macan 4, for starters, will churn out 402bhp and 650Nm of torque, allowing it to complete the century sprint in 5.2 seconds. The juicier Macan Turbo will, however, produce 630bhp and a whopping 1,130Nm of torque from the word go, allowing it to hit the 100km/h mark from nought in just 3.3 seconds.
3. A toast to the numbers that boast!
More relevantly, the Macan does not disappoint when it comes to functionality. Measuring 4,784mm long, 1,938mm wide and 1,622mm tall, the new Porsche EV is 58mm longer than the regular Macan, which results in a wheelbase that's 86mm longer. More rear legroom is to be expected.
Additionally, the Macan 4 boasts reasonable boot space of 540 litres, which can be expanded to 1,348 litres with the seats folded. The Turbo variant, on the other hand, has a slightly smaller 480 litres, and will increase a couple of notches to 1,288 litres, if necessary. Still, both variants will sport an 84-litre frunk space.
4. As slippery as an eel
Speaking of boasting numbers, the Macan has a drag coefficient of just 0.25Cd, which is better than its predecessor of 0.35Cd. To put things into perspective, the Mercedes Benz EQS450+ comes with a 0.20 drag coefficient, which is currently the most aerodynamic production car in the world.
This allows the Macan 4 to have a combined WLTP range of 613km. The Macan Turbo, on the other hand, will be capable of 591km of combined range. Both models will come with a huge 100kWh battery.
5. Efficient charging
Equipped with an 800V architecture, the time taken to charge the battery from 10% to 80% takes about 21 minutes. More impressively, the Macan EV utilises what it calls 'bank charging', which allows the battery to split into two 400V packs for better charging on slower fast chargers.
At a slower pace, an AC charging at up to 11kW is possible, depending on the conditions. Utilising this, the car will charge up to 100% in about 11 hours.
6. Models are available for orders right now!
According to Porsche Singapore, the Macan 4 as well as Turbo are now available for orders. However, deliveries are only expected to start some time at the end of this year.
