Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have signed a new agreement with Samsung Electronics to enhance to offered connectivity between residential and mobility spaces.
The firms will be collaborating on Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services, which will allow customers of either car brand to remotely control their home digital appliances via touch or voice commands from their car's infotainment systems, or to control various vehicle functions via the home TV or smartphone apps.
Users will thus be able to activate a 'Home Mode' for example, to turn on a registered air-conditioner or start the robot vacuum in their car before they reach their home or can initiate an 'Away Mode' to turn off unnecessary lights in their home and pre-activate the air-conditioning of their vehicle as they head out.
The firm's state that this connectivity will be made possible through the integration of both Hyundai and Kia's connected car services with Samsung's Internet of Things platform 'SmartThings'. Both Hyundai and Kia will develop stable service-providing infotainment systems to offer these new features, and offer them through over-the-air and USB-based updates for its existing vehicles.
